Clay Competition

Whenever I play poker, I always use a clay poker chips set. It also helps if you have some poker supplies like a table cover, with slots to hold your chips. Plastic poker chips just aren’t the same; they lack a certain professionalism that makes it difficult to gamble. When you have a clay poker chip set in your hands, you know that the money you’re betting counts, and that if you lose, you won’t get it back.

Last week the stakes were high, and it was down to me and my best friend. I knew he wasn’t bluffing by the way he raised me four black chips (100’s) after the river.  Lucky for me, I had a full house – 3 queens and a pair of 9s. When he showed his full house, I almost had a conniption fit, but I knew that mine was higher. When I collected all of those heavy clay poker chips, it really felt like I had won gold – the weight, as opposed to the light plasticky feel of plastic poker chips, was formidable.

He was bitter, but he shook my hand graciously. Our buy-in isn’t too high, but I could see that the competition had changed things between us, at least for the night.
